Ministry Atrium Security Log

Reported By: Eric Munch

Date of Report: 12/8/1995

Title/Role: Head of Security

Incident No.: #1

Incident Information

Incident Type: Suspicious persons

Location: Department of Mysteries

Incident Description: On my 9 o’clock walkthrough of the building, ran across unauthorized person (Lucius Malfoy) near the Department of Mysteries entrance. When questioned he replied he had business with the Minister of Magic. Minister Fudge was currently in a Disciplinary Hearing so I escorted Mr. Malfoy to Courtroom Ten.

Minister Fudge vouched for Mr. Malfoy, so I issued him a temporary badge, but it is my formal recommendation that Visitor’s Badges be enchanted with security spells instead of simple descriptions. Also advise Sneakoscopes at all points of entry. It baffles me that we don’t have them already.

Otherwise a quiet first day.

Incident No.: #20

Incident Information

Incident Type: Trespass and Attempted Robbery

Location: Department of Mysteries

Incident Description: Upon my 1 o’clock round, heard a disturbance near the Department of Mysteries entrance. The hallway appeared empty, but I had my Probity Probe on me and discovered Sturgis Podmore, under a concealment cloak attempting to break into the Department. Mr. Podmore was never particularly bright but seemed hazier than usual. He, however, offered no defence and was quickly apprehended and turned over to Azkaban guards.

I must note that my request for night security has remained unanswered, as well as the recommendation of additional dark detectors at locations of opportunity. This is now the fourth incident near the Department of Mysteries, and if I hadn’t taken this double shift I shudder to think what could have happened. Who knows what could be slithering around these halls without the proper manpower to investigate?

Additionally, the Magical Maintenance Department has decided on snow for 12 days now. Someone might want to keep an eye on Reg to make sure everything’s alright.

Incident Information

Incident Type: Office Theft

Location: Department of Magical Transportation

Incident Description: After an anonymous tip, an undercover investigation of the Department of Magical Transportation led us to discover Madam Edgecombe had been stealing Post-It notes from the desk of her co-workers in the Floo Network Authority.

Surely simple matters like this can be handled internally by their department heads, but as per Minister Fudge’s request the investigation notes were handed over to the office of the Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic.

Incident Information

Incident Type: Criminal Offence

Location: Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes

Incident Description: Nigel in the Muggle Liaison Office was unfamiliar with the Muggle singer Tina Turner. Even after listening to the selection from the Goldeneye TrackSound (Sp?), he maintained she was merely acceptable.

Personally, this should be a fireable offence, but at the very least indicates a level of gross negligence and should disqualify him from dealing with Muggles. I fear he won’t be believable.

On another note, this James Bond character remains a pale imitation of a Hit Wizard.

Incident Information

Incident Type: Workplace Injury

Location: Department of Mysteries

Incident Description: I was alerted by the portrait of Dilys Derwent that Arthur Weasley was in dire need of medical attention near the Department of Mysteries. When I arrived on the scene it appeared as if he had been bitten several times and was in bad shape. He was immediately transported to St Mungo’s.

He was non-responsive, so there is no indication of what Mr. Weasley was doing down there after hours but it should be noted Arthur has been a model employee in my observation. However this underscores my repeated calls for added security. This is the eighth incident near the Department of Mysteries this fall alone, it doesn’t take a genius to note something is going on down there. However my requests for additional personnel and dark detectors have gone unanswered.

I would also request security increased around St. Mungo’s. It is clear Mr. Weasley was attacked by someone or something, and if these incidents are related they could attempt to strike again before we can get to the bottom of this. Perhaps the Aurors Office could inspect incoming mail and visitors until the matter is closed.

Additionally, there was what appeared to be shed skin from a rather large snake or reptile near the scene.

Incident No.: #151

Incident Information

Incident Type: Questionable Death

Location: St. Mungo’s Hospital

Incident Description: With the death of former Unspeakable Broderick Bode, the Minister has agreed to my request for security at St. Mungo’s. Without supplying any additional support or staff however, my purview has merely been expanded to include hospital security as well.

As per my previous missives, additional screenings, particularly for those in active Department investigations could have prevented incidents such as these. It is not lost that the Ministry has the resources to monitor school children at Hogwarts yet not those engaged in the safety of its own government.

It must be noted as an Unspeakable, Bode also has a connection to the Department of Mysteries. If anyone is reading these logs I’m sure even a 16 year-old could connect these dots. I fear without additional support however, we run the risk of appearing comically incompetent and almost complicit in lacking security.

Incident No.: #161

Incident Information

Incident Type: General Unrest

Location: Ministry for Magic

Incident Description: With the news of the first mass-breakout in Azkaban history, there was more trepidation and unrest than usual. After consulting with Kingsley Shacklebolt in the Auror Office, I took it upon myself to install additional Sneakoscopes and Foe Glasses around strategic junctions in the Ministry.

Without additional Ministry support, I am concerned fear and distrust will become as much of a problem as any security risk.

Incident No.: #199

Incident Information

Incident Type: Official Correction

Location: Ministry for Magic

Incident Description: Following the release of Harry Potter’s interview in The Quibbler, the Ministry requested the removal of privately purchased secrecy detectors. I am sure the timing is merely coincidental.

This request was not accompanied by further resources to compensate for the current security needs. It is now crystal clear that Death Eaters are attempting to break into the Department of Mysteries for reasons unknown. However it is unclear what the Ministry is willing to do to stop it.

Incident Information

Incident Type: Additional Security

Location: Visitor’s Entrance

Incident Description: In lieu of actual staffing support, the Ministry has seen fit to authorize increased specificity for Visitor’s Badges.

Instead of additional late night staff, the Visitor’s Entrance will now operate at all hours, as long as the purpose of the visit is recorded. Minister Fudge maintains this will allow for greater documentation of incidents and thus improved security.

Incident No.: #290

Incident Information

Incident Type: Unauthorized Entrance

Location: Visitor’s Entrance

Incident Description: Otto Bagman entered the Ministry after hours for “Quidditch Practice” and was found inebriated in his brother’s old uniform.

Once again, I must voice my concern that this new policy is only making it easier to penetrate the Ministry’s defences. This is in light of the continued attempts to access the Department of Mysteries.

Title/Role: Head of Security

Incident No.: #321

Incident Information

Incident Type: Unauthorized Entrance

Location: Department of Mysteries

Incident Description: I told you.

I tried to warn all of you about the gaping security holes I was being forced to fill, but noooooo. And now our most secret room has been penetrated by not only Death Eaters, but He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named himself (who the Minister personally assured everyone was dead), Albus Dumbledore who has been on the run for months, and a pack of unqualified teenaged wizards.

Despite enchanting the Visitor’s Entrance to alert me when used after hours, without the support of the Ministry, I was unable to Apparate directly to the scene as Minister Fudge mandated I accompany him as part of his security detail as he made a trip to Pret a Manger for dinner.

I refuse to be the fall guy for this fiasco as copies of these logs have been sent to The Daily Prophet and The Quibbler for transparency. The public deserves to know the truth! You won’t blame MY Black ass for this!
